My HR Journey

Back in the 1980s, I thought I worked in IT. I was part of an IT Training team—and one day, without fanfare, the department was moved into HR.
Months passed before I noticed. I finally asked my manager why “IT” kept getting invited to HR meetings. That’s when I learned: I’d been working in HR all along.
On my next performance review? Low marks for organizational awareness.
Fair enough.
Since then, I’ve spent a 40+ year career in HR—focused on Organizational Effectiveness, Talent Management, and Leadership Development.
And over time, I developed:
Deep respect for HR’s role in shaping culture and strategy.
Profound admiration for the people who make HR what it is.
I’ve watched the function evolve—From personnel and compliance to well-being, transformation, and strategic leadership.
And I’ve witnessed the tension HR must navigate daily:
✅ Advancing business goals
🔁 While protecting and advocating for employees
It’s not easy. But time and again, when crisis hit or opportunity knocked—HR was the first to step in.
🎯 Here’s what I’ve also seen:
HR professionals spend much of their day coaching and counseling others. But rarely do they have someone holding space for them.
That’s why I coach HR professionals now.
To support those who support everyone else. To help them reflect, reframe, and reignite their careers.
This is my passion. This is my purpose.
And you?💬 How did your HR journey begin?
